Two men are in custody after a holdup at an Adamsville bank early Wednesday afternoon.

The robbery happened about 1:10 p.m. at Wells Fargo, said Adamsvile police Det. Rick Whitfield. Authorities said one of the robbers handed the teller a note demanding $2,000 and threatened "someone would kill him" if he didn't hand it over.

The teller was able to activate the holdup alarm and Jefferson County sheriff's deputies and Adamsville officers flocked to the scene.

When they arrived, one suspect was still in the bank and the other in a getaway car. The men, ages 40 and 32, were taken to the Adamsville City Jail, where they will be held pending formal charges. One of the men is from Birmingham; the other is from Georgia.

There were no injuries, and no weapon was presented inside the bank.
