Troy Industries are releasing some new side action rifles (SAR), developed for precision-based shooting in a rugged, reliable and light-weight package. The SAR rifles are 50-State Legal for hunting and target shooting. The stock is billet machined and is foldable to the left, collapsing the total length for transportation.
I know a lot of people, most actually, who say a manual rifle like this makes no sense. Well perhaps if you can own semi-autos without problems that is understandable, but having shot the Troy PAR (think manual action AR15) extensively it’s actually a great, very accurate rifle and the shooting is a lot of fun, even in 3Gun and IPSC practical shooting (as long as you compete with similar rifles!).
You would be amazed how fast you can shoot a Troy PAR, my stage time is usually the same as or similar to the semi-autos in the Open division. Long range courses I might even beat them, as they wait for the recoil to set for their second shot I’m on my way to the next target. You shoot one bullet less per paper target in manual versus open division, but everything else is more or less the same except you really have to go for A hits only and avoid any misses. In IPSC you can only get 5 points for an A hit, but you lose 10 points for a Miss. Do the math, and realize that you have to hit and get the highest points all the time, so it makes you a better shooter.
I’ve never tried the SAR (It’s new!) but it looks pretty similar in many aspects to the PAR, except there is no pump.
Troy are taking pre-orders now, and the rifles should be shipping in January 2018.

As a reference, Kalashnikov makes a manual action rifle as well, the KSZ-223. It’s is spring assisted, as in you only have to pull back and then let go to load or reload the chamber. I don’t know if the Troy SAR works the same way, but I think it’s manual.
