Football is a tough, challenging game. Just ask new Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher.

Fisher took the time during his session with the media at the Aggies’ fall camp on Monday to discuss the toughness that he wants his team to play with, and just how exactly it can get there.

“You don’t know where you’re going to get to until you get tired, beat up and your mind gets tired,” Fisher said at fall camp on Monday. “You’ve got to learn where you’re at mentally and physically, and you’ve got to learn to get to a point when you’re tired and you’re sore and you’re beat up to find out if you can still execute. That’s what’s going to happen in championship-level play. This ain’t utopia. This ain’t the perfect world. Football is a tough, hard-nosed game. You’ve got to go to places to find out if you’ve got anything in you.”

Fisher is attempting to turn around a program that has lost five or more games in four consecutive seasons, including last year when it went 7-6.

Perhaps Fisher’s philosophy on toughness and how to incorporate it into a player’s skill set will help the Aggies improve their on-field results this season.

Fisher makes his A&M coaching debut when the Aggies host Northwestern State on Aug. 30.
