KENNY ROGERS: THE GAMBLER’S LAST DEAL
GOLDEN NUGGET // 9 P.M. SATURDAY, DEC. 9
WHO IS HE: In the mid 1970s Kenny Rogers was able to combine easy listening music with a country flair and bring it to the top of the pop charts. The grey-haired, bearded Texan scored major hits like “Lucille,” “The Gambler” and “Crazy.” Rogers spent six weeks atop the pop charts with his cover of the Lionel Richie-penned “Lady.” In addition to his solo success, Rogers also reached the top of the charts with several successful duets including “Don’t Fall in Love with a Dreamer” with Kim Carnes, “We’ve Got Tonight” with Sheena Easton and “Islands in the Stream” with Dolly Parton.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Could this really be the end of the line for Kenny Rogers as a live performer? That’s the premise behind his current tour “The Gambler’s Last Deal.” Even the possibility that this could be one of Rogers’ final performances means that fans should come out in droves for what is sure to be an emotional night. Concertgoers can look forward to hearing plenty of hits such as “The Gambler,” “Lady,” “Islands in the Stream” and “Buy Me a Rose.” Given the time of the year, it’s also a possibility that “The Gambler” will pull out some holiday favorites such as “Silent Night,” “White Christmas” and “Oh Holy Night.”
