Alabama capital murder suspect sent back from Tennessee
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) – A former school bus driver accused of fatally shooting a woman while stealing her car to chase his ex-girlfriend has been returned to Alabama from Tennessee to face a capital murder charge.
Local news media report 27-year-old Warren Hardy was booked into the Madison County jail Tuesday, where he was being held without bond. He is charged in the Aug. 26 death of 72-year-old Kathleen Lundy outside her Huntsville home.
Police say Hardy was trying to chase his ex-girlfriend, her daughter and her stepfather who had fled in a car. Police say Hardy walked down the street after they drove away and encountered Lundy as she exited her home. Police say he demanded her car keys, shot her and drove away.
Hardy was arrested two days later in Whitwell, Tennessee.
