An off-duty officer shot and killed a Florida man Monday afternoon for trying to break into his ex-wife’s home while their son was inside, according to law enforcement and news reports.

The officer’s 13-year-old son called his parents and told them someone was trying to break into the home from the rear, according to WSVN, a FOX affiliated news station serving the South Florida area.

The father confronted the suspect and shots were fired, WSVN reported.

A neighbor told the television station he heard ten to 13 shots.

The 30-year-old suspected robber was taken to the hospital and later died of his injuries.

The teen and father were not injured.
