LAKE MARY, Fla. — A 31-year-old man standing outside of his SUV that was stopped on Interstate 4 was struck and killed late Friday night, troopers say.

  • FHP: Chevrolet SUV was stopped in right lane of westbound I-4
  • Joshua Cherry was standing near the back of SUV, troopers say
  • Cherry struck by Honda; driver said he didn't see stopped SUV

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Joshua Cherry was standing outside of a 2009 Chevrolet SUV that was stopped in the right lane of westbound I-4 near the Lake Mary Boulevard on-ramp just after 11:30 p.m.

That's when he was struck by 2018 four-door Honda. Driver James Pinter, 39, of Casselberry, told FHP investigators he didn't see the stopped SUV.

Troopers said it's unknown whether the SUV was disabled or why Cherry, of DeBary, was outside the vehicle.

Pinter, who troopers say was wearing a seat belt, incurred minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.

The crash is under investigation.
