Man who died after being hit by train identified

A man who drove his truck in front of a BNSF train has been identified. Investigators say 61 year-old David Irmen of Cathay North Dakota pulled in front of a BNSF train and was struck broadside. The truck rolled and Irmen died at the scene. The investigation is on going.

NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A Cathay man was killed after being struck by a BNSF train in Wells County early Thursday morning.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports that the 61 year-old Cathay man was traveling northbound on 58th Ave. NE at around 7:15 AM when he failed to yield for a westbound BNSF train roughly 11 miles northwest of New Rockford.

The pickup was struck on the passenger side, causing the pickup to roll into the north ditch of the railroad right of way. The man was deceased at the scene. Authorities are not releasing the man's name at this time.

There were no injuries reported by the railroad staff.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
