A man pointed a gun at another driver in a road rage incident last week in Round Rock, according to an arrest affidavit said.

Mark Edward Cochran, 33, of Round Rock was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Police were notified at 12:44 p.m. Friday about the incident in the 600 block of E. Old Settlers Boulevard, the affidavit said. The victim said he was driving on Old Settlers Boulevard when he had a "road rage incident" with a man in a red Dodge pickup who took a gun out of a black box and pointed it directly at him, according to the document.

It said the victim told police that the man, later identified as Cochran, then cursed at him and drove away. The victim also gave police a license plate number for Cochran's truck, the affidavit said.

Police found Cochran at his Round Rock home four minutes after the victim told them what happened, according to the affidavit.

Cochran said he was driving a red Dodge pickup when the victim cut him off on East Old Settlers Boulevard and they later pulled up next to each other at the intersection with N. Mays Street and cursed at each other, the affidavit said.

It said Cochran told police he pushed the mirror on the passenger side of other car before he drove away. He also said he was on the phone with his wife when the event occurred, the affidavit said.

Cochran's wife told police that when he called her, she heard him yelling at someone else and then he dropped the phone and she could tell he was moving something around, the document said.

It said police found a speedloader for a semi-automatic pistol on the floorboard of Cochran's truck. Police also got permission to search Cochran's house and found a 9 mm pistol with a large blue star on the side in a black box on top of the closet, the affidavit said. It said the gun matched the description of the pistol the victim said was pointed at him.

Cochran was released from the Williamson County Jail on Monday with bail set at $40,000.
