Walk In The Park Benefit for Local Animal Shelters - Friends of Ashland County Park District will play host to Walk in the Park, a benefit for local animal shelters, from 9 to 11 a.m. today, June 8 at Freer Field, Ashland. Participants are asked to bring their pets for a morning stroll, make a donation for animal shelters from their current needs list or make a monetary contribution. Participants will receive a participation ribbon for a donation. A water station will be available for pets, along with other vendors to pamper them. No Pawz Left Behind will have some dogs available for adoption, too.

T-Rex in Mansfield - The Richland Lithic and Lapidary Society will have its annual gem, mineral, bead, fossil and jewelry show 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, June 8 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9 in the Arts and Crafts building at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield. The theme for the show is "Dinosaurs-they ruled the Mesozoic." The T-Rex head from The Ohio State University, a private collection of various types of dinosaur eggs, a 60-pound single vertebrae from a plant eating dinosaur, dinosaur teeth, a dinosaur leg bone and other dinosaur-related fossils will be on display.

Wine at the Mill Festival - Wolf Creek Pine Run Grist Mill invites the public to come enjoy great food and wines noon to 11 p.m. today, June 8. Wine will be available for tasting, purchase and carry-out. Food will be available for purchase. Live music will be performed all day. Wine tickets are $15, which includes logo wine glass and tastings. Designated driver tickets are $8 and include logo mug and unlimited soft drinks. All tickets can be purchased at the gate. Movie Under the Stars - Outside in the spray park area, everyone is invited to enjoy movies under the stars at dusk on the second Saturday each month through August. All movies are free and popcorn also is free to all participants. Rain location is the Kroc Center Field House. "Escape from Planet Earth" will be shown today. The July 13 feature is "Cinderella." Rounding out the season Aug. 10 is the showing of "Brave."

Ventriloquist/comedienne and bluegrass/country/folk/gospel band - Guy C. Memorial Myers Band Shell Summer Concert Series opens 6 p.m. Sunday, June 9 with an all-in-the-family program. Lynn Trefzger shares "a childhood hobby that got out of hand" and her trunk full of zany characters. Trefzger has received many awards, including the Peoples Choice Award by the Ohio Arts Presenters Network Association. Northwest Territory takes over the stage at 8 p.m. with not only bluegrass music, but also country, folk and gospel. Ashland's own Mary Kettering adds vocals and fiddle to the band. Coburn Goes Small - Coburn Gallery will play host to a national juried exhibition, "Coburn Goes Small," which will feature artworks no larger than 20 inches by 20 inches, including the frame. The exhibit runs now through June 16 and may be viewed 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Juror for the exhibition is photographer Jessica Somers, whose work has been exhibited nationally and has been published in various periodicals, including the second edition of "The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes," by Christopher James. She teaches photography throughout Connecticut and at the Art Institute of Boston. Coburn Gallery is on Ashland University campus, 331 College Ave.

Family Nature Club - Family Nature Club will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15 with a tree walk and tree "craft." Family Nature Club is an activity for families organized by Ashland County Park District. Children must be accompanied by an adult, parent or guardian to attend. Car Show for MS in New London - New London Eagles eighth annual Car Show for M.S. will take place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at F.O.E. Aerie 2869, 29 Fir St., New London. All makes/models/years and motorcycles are welcome. $5 entry fee per vehicle. A best-dressed '50s and '60s contest will take place. Civil War Poetess Genealogy - Raylene Hlavaty of Jeromesville will portray Margaret Junkin Preston, a Confederate poetess of the Civil War, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18 in the lower level of Ashland Public Library, 224 Claremont Ave. Hlavaty as Preston will share her childhood memories and her two great passions -- religion and education. Junkin Preston was raised in Lexington, Va., where her father served as president of Washington College and had close ties to Virginia Military Institute. Hlavaty's sons will perform music of that period prior to the program as people arrive. The chapter's business meeting will follow.

Bob-O-Link Festival - Bob-O-Link Festival will take place 9 a.m. to early afternoon Saturday, June 22 at Byers Woods. Greater Mohican Audubon Society will again sponsor the festival. Populations of this colorful bird with the flute-like song are decreasing in Ohio due to habitat destruction. Byers Woods has a large number of bob-o-links nesting on the closed grass-covered trash mounds. This event draws people from across the state. Some vendors will be there, as well as demonstrations. Tim Leslie will lead a bird walk in the morning, and spotting scopes will be set up to view the nesting birds. Festivities will start at 9 a.m. and continue into the early afternoon. This event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be available for a donation, served by Friends of Ashland County Park District.

Special showing, "The United States of Autism" - The Autism Awareness Walk-a-thon is presenting "The United States of Autism" at 7:30 p.m Monday, June 24 at Cinemark Theatres in Ontario. General admission is $12. A father journeys across America 11,000 miles in 40 days to find answers for his own son in dealing with autism, and encounters a number of other families of very different backgrounds, but similar challenges.

Ashland BalloonFest - Feel the excitement and splendor of bold, colorful hot air balloons as they tower over you, then magically rise and soar away. Plus, enjoy lots of other activities, such as balloon glows, balloon races, stage performances, sports tournaments, displays, exhibits, food and more. BalloonFest promises to be an outing with the entire family in mind. Everyone will enjoy the colorful Ashland skies as the hot air balloons fill the air for this memorable weekend. This year's Ashland BalloonFest will be Thursday, June 27 to Sunday, June 30 in Freer Field at Park Street and Morgan Avenue, Ashland.

Fun, Fabulous Friday - "Duck Dynasty Day," which will involve creating a headband or hat out of only duct tape, will be the theme for the June 28 United Way of Ashland County's Fun, Fabulous Friday, which will be 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The Kroc Center Dixieland Band will provide entertainment.

Fly in/Drive in pancake breakfast - Breakfast is served 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 29 at Ashland County Airport. Public is invited.

Ice Cream Social and Silent Auction - Ashland County Historical Society will play host to its annual Ice Cream Social and Silent Auction from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 30. This family friendly event is one of the society's main events, and a community favorite every year. There will be open tours, musical entertainment, ice cream and homemade cake available to visitors throughout the day. Ashland Senior Citizens Center will demonstrate chair caning talents in the gazebo, and all museum buildings will be open for self-guided tours. In the gift shop, guests will find many historical gift items for sale. Music will be provided by Mansfield Dulcimers and The Black Fork Valley Boys. The Veterans History Committee will have a large military display in the lower level of the Noonan House. A favorite part of this event is the silent auction. Chairwoman Nancy Kopp is seeking donations for this year's auction. Gerald Workman, auction volunteer, once again will be on site to help out before and during the auction. The popular cash-and-carry table will have items for sale throughout the day. Silent auction bidding ends at 3:45 p.m. There is something for everyone of every age. Ashland 2013 Chautauqua - "Legends of the Silver Screen" is this year's theme from Tuesday, July 9 through Saturday, July 13 at Guy C. Myers Memorial Band Shell, West Main Street and Parkside Drive, Ashland. This Chautauqua is an annual five-day festival presenting living history presentations from a specific time period or subject of history in an entertaining and thought-provoking manner. The featured Legends of the Silver Screen will be D.W. Griffith, Jack Warner, Louella Parsons, Ethel Waters and William Faulkner.

Fun, Fabulous Friday - "Chalk It Up and Cake Walk Day" will be the theme of the July 12 United Way of Ashland County's Fun Fabulous Friday at Corner Park from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. The Moonlighters will sing oldies for the entertainment.

Great Mohican Pow-Wow - A respectful, authentic Native American festival including drumming, tribal dancing, storytelling, flute playing, fire starting and tomahawk throwing will bring the experience of the ages home to Mohican Reservation Campgrounds from 10 a.m. to early evening July 12 through 14 and Sept. 20 through 22 at Mohican Reservation, 23270 Wally Road South, Loudonville. Festival in the Park - South Street Park beside Associated Charities, 121 South St., is the scene of a summer party from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13 with food, beverages, a bake sale, raffles, all for donation only. Free balloons and balls will be given to kids. All donations will go to the "J.U.S.S.T. Program" to provide jeans, underwear, socks, shoes and T-shirts to Ashland County children for back-to-school wardrobe needs. Open to the entire community.

Polk Ice Cream Social - Polk Lions Club is sponsoring the annual ice cream social 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 14 at Polk Village Community Center, Ohio 89 and Congress Street. Menu is full of surprises, including assorted dinner items and desserts, featuring Polk homemade ice cream. Items are priced individually. Entertainment will include Litchfield Town Band providing music and Mapleton Sweeties performing dance routines.

Safety Town - Children learn bike, bus, fire and pedestrian safety with the assistance of Ashland County Sheriff's Office and local fire departments from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 15 to Friday, July 19 at Black River Education Center in Sullivan. Fee is $20. Graduates receive a bike helmet. Fun, Fabulous Friday - "Hot Dog Days of Summer" with celebrity cooks will be the theme of the one Fun, Fabulous Friday in Loudonville this summer July 19. The vocal and piano talents of Steve Brown will be the entertainment for the United Way of Ashland County event, which will be 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Musical "The Confession" In Sugarcreek - Senior Citizens of Ashland take in an Amish musical based on Beverly Lewis' novel, "The Confession" at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at the Carlisle Inn of Sugarcreek. There will be time for shopping before the lunch buffet at noon. Deadline for reservations is Thursday, June 20 at the Senior Center, 419-289-7745 and must include trip fee of $85 at time of reservation, which includes round-trip motor coach, buffet lunch, theater presentation and all gratuities. Bus departs at 9 a.m. and returns at approximately 7 p.m.

Fun, Fabulous Friday - "Price is Right Day" will be the theme of the July 26 Fun, Fabulous Friday at Corner Park in downtown Ashland. Entertainment will be provided by 732 Electric Duo for the United Way of Ashland County event, which will be 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Fun, Fabulous Friday - "Clash and Crazy Hat Day," which will involve wearing wild-colored outfits where nothing matches with a favorite crazy hat, will be the theme of the Aug. 9 Fun, Fabulous Friday at Corner Park in downtown Ashland. It will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Entertainment will be "Crazy Days of Summer" games, music and activities for kids and adults. A mobile learning adventure for children 2 to 5 years old also will be part of the day from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Lincoln Highway Car Show - Ashland Area Convention & Visitors Bureau will sponsor the seventh annual Lincoln Highway Car Show & Swap Meet from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at Samaritan on Main, 663 E. Main St., Ashland. Registration will be 9 a.m. to noon. Car owners will be charged $5 per vehicle. There will be four classes: car, rod, truck and featured Thunderbirds of all makes and models. Thunderbirds will be admitted free. Car show participants will vote on their favorites and the awards ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. There will be dash plaques for the first 100 cars. Awards will include one best of each class, one best of show and four plaques for each class. There also will be a swap meet. Vendor spaces are $10 for a 10-foot by 10-foot space. New cars and trucks will be on display from Ashland area dealerships. A disc jockey will provide entertainment throughout the event. Food will be available.

Moravian Genealogy - The Ashland Chapter of Genealogy will welcome Kyle von Kamp 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20 to the lower level meeting room of Ashland Public Library, 224 Claremont Ave. Von Kamp will tell of his experience in researching the Moravian genealogical lines. A question-and-answer session will be available and the chapter's business meeting will follow.

Researching Polish Ancestors - Norm Lewicki of Cleveland will tell of researching his Polish ancestors in his publication "My Family Book" from 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Ashland Public Library. Although primarily of Polish lineage, information will be beneficial for many people who have family from Europe. There will be a question-and-answer session and the chapter's business meeting will follow. The public is invited, there is no admission fee.

World War I - John Moser of Ashland University's history department will present a program about World War I from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Ashland Public Library, 224 Claremont Ave.

Autumn Fiber Festival - The second annual Autumn Fiber Festival returns to the Ashland County Fairgrounds 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Local fiber producers, craftsmen and artists will be brought together to display and sell their wares, demonstrate their skills and educate the visiting public about natural fibers and their importance to the community and culture. The fairgrounds is located at 2042 Claremont Ave., Ashland.

Vicki Lawrence and Mama - The Emmy-winning actress brings her "two woman show" to Mansfield's Renaissance Theatre stage 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 in this brand new, tour-de-force performance that mixes comedy, music and Mama's views on the real world. You & Your Little One - 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays from July 23 to Nov. 12 at the Kroc Center, 527 E. Liberty St., Ashland. Cost is $2 per adult, kids accompanied by an adult admitted free. Parents of small children can come and get together with other moms and dads as their children play in the field house. There's plenty of room and the weather is always nice inside the Kroc Center. The first and third Tuesday of each month is Bounce House Day. All other Tuesdays are free play. The Kroc is stocked with lots of balls, building blocks and giant puzzle pieces to create fun. Parents of young children are invited to come and enjoy a play date.

Get Movin' Walkers - Step lively 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m. weekdays, outside or inside for free, but registration at the front desk of the Kroc Center is required.
