3 Children Struck By Lightning At Bus Stop In Stable Condition
The children were hit by lightning while waiting at a bus stop in Round Lake Heights Thursday morning.
ROUND LAKE HEIGHTS, IL -- Three local students who were hit by lightning while waiting at a bus stop in Round Lake Heights Thursday morning are all in stable condition, Lake Villa District 41 school officials said. The children were alert and communicative following the incident, which was reported at 7:15 a.m. near the corner of Lotus and Ottawa. The children were taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Their injuries were originally considered serious but not life-threatening. As of Thursday morning, school officials said all children were in stable condition.

The parents of each of the children struck by lightning were notified and either responded directly to the scene or to Condell. Nine children were at the bus stop at the time of the lightning strike and some of the children ran home, according to NBC Chicago 5.
The incident comes nearly two months after a 22-year-old Woodstock woman, Brittney Prehn, was hit by lightning while attending the Country Thunder Music Festival in Twin Lakes, Wis. Prehn survived and is recovering from the lightning strike.
