DEHRADUN: The daughter of former chief minister and current Lok Sabha MP from Pauri Garhwal Major General (retd) BC Khanduri on Sunday termed the posting of a series of tweets from the Twitter account @MGBCKhanduri which were attributed to her father as “a big conspiracy.” Ritu Khanduri Bhushan told TOI that she had lodged a complaint with the police on the midnight of Saturday when she came to know of the matter.
“It was really shocking for me when so many people started calling me about the tweets. I told them that my father doesn’t even have a Twitter handle and has nothing to do with these posts,” she said. She added that the timing and content of the tweets smacked of a political conspiracy against her father. “The account was not an official one (which is marked in blue by Twitter).Clearly, the tweets were posted with the specific purpose to defame my father,” said Khanduri.
The tweets which were posted on Saturday spoke about how “politics today had become simply like a typical Hindi potboiler” and expressed “pain and anguish that despite serving the country in the Army and through politics, my (Khanduri’s) dreams for the state remained unfulfilled.”
Another tweet which was construed by many as an attack on the present dispensation within the BJP read,” Whether the party gives me respect or not, I am not worried. I have received enough love from the people.” The tweets were later deleted and the account, too, was deleted from the social networking site by the anonymous user.
Meanwhile, police officials said that they had registered a case under section 420 (cheating), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) and section 65 of Information Technology Act. Rajesh Shah, in charge of Nehru colony police station told TOI that they have written to Twitter seeking information about “the account from which the tweets were posted as well as details filled in by the user while signing up.”
