MIDLAND, MI – The breast health program at MidMichigan Medical Center–Midland has received a three-year full re-accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

Accreditation is given to programs that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
The MidMichigan Breast Health Program, located at MidMichigan's Center for Women's Health, 2600 McCandless, demonstrated compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and center leadership and quality improvement.
In addition to this re-accreditation, the Center for Women’s Health at the Medical Center received recognition of its breast health program's outstanding quality. In the spring, the center was designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
The breast health program at MidMichigan is directed by Dr. Kelly Wirsing, a breast surgeon. The program offers advanced technology and techniques; a process that expedites referrals to breast health physicians and specialists; and breast cancer patient navigator, certified by the National Consortium of Breast Centers, a service utilizing certified breast health nurses to assist patients who have been diagnosed with a variety of breast health issues.
