Roanoke City partnered with volunteers and the police department for a clean a one of the city's neighborhoods. It was an all day effort. People picked up litter and trash from streets, parks, and alleys in the Melrose-Loudon and Rugby areas.

"We want people to live in a clean neighborhood, that's number one," said Jeffrey Powell. "Two, we want people to understand the rules and regulations of solid waste. Three, we want people working together and communicating and collaborating. We want them to come out and meet their neighbors, talk about, get to know who is here."

Organizers say they hope to have this even again.
