Cedar Falls Baker Shows of "Core" Competencies at State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/13/2018) (readMedia)-- John Sunvold of Cedar Falls won First Place Overall in the Iowa Orchards Creations competition judged Friday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Kathleen Taylor of Knoxville earned Second Place Overall.

Contestants were tasked with creating desserts and fruit pies that featured Iowa grown fruits.

Entries were judged on taste, creativity and general appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
