Fans of homegrown sandwich shop Beef ‘N Bread may want to race to Chinatown for one last helping of sliced Angus beef layered with avocado, basil, Sriracha, jalapeno, and hoisin sauce before the entire menu gets erased.

Washington Post food writer Tim Carman reports that Beef ‘N Bread founder Nuri Erol — who is already in the process of converting the Beef ‘N Bread he planted in Foggy Bottom (2121 H Street NW) in late 2016 into raw seafood-based Onolicious Poke — may also turn his flagship shop (750 Sixth Street NW) into another poke stand. Or possibly a gelateria.

The potential pivot — “He’s not sure yet,” Carman says of the rebranding plan — would bring to an end a neighborhood eatery that’s developed a faithful following since its arrival in late 2015. The heart of Beef ‘N Bread’s operation has always been the deli-style meats served throughout the day. Along with the titular roast beef, the shop made regulars of ravenous D.C. diners by turning out specialty sandwiches featuring roasted turkey, bacon, chicken salad, Asian-spiced tuna and more.
