Five things to do in July

1 Friday Night Shuffle

Pack a cooler, some bug repellent and a friend or three for a fun night that will cost you nothing. Every Friday from 7 to 11 p.m., the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club is open to the public. You'll be surprised how many other players are there. Christine Page, president of the club, said 100 to 150 people (regulars and newcomers, families, college students, young adults and seniors) come to play on free Fridays, which started in 2005. There are no winners or losers. It's all just for fun. They don't sell refreshments, so bring your own. In fact, you can even have a pizza delivered to your court. stpeteshuffle.com.

2 Picture perfect

We've all fallen in love with photographs — usually shot by someone else. Learn from other photographers how to take your own great pictures at "Your 15 Minutes of Fame," one in a series of events at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, at 7 p.m. July 18. Members will display their photos and explain what it took to get the shots.

Museum manager Joyce M. Zevola said, "The audience is encouraged to ask questions and a wonderful dialogue in photography begins."

3 Hey, Storm trackers

The Tampa Bay Storm arena football team is winding down its season, so if you have a hankering to go, there's only one more chance to see the team at home. On July 14 at 7:30 p.m., the Storm takes on the New Orleans VooDoo in its last home game of the season, which is also fan appreciation night. Details were still being finalized at press time, but backpacks will be handed out and players, coaches and cheerleaders will hang around after the game to sign autographs. 4 Star-spangled salute

The Florida Wind Band will present patriotic favorites at 7:30 p.m. July 2 in the new USF School of Music Concert Hall, 3755 USF Holly Drive, Tampa. Selections include Hymn for the Lost and the Living, Armed Forces Salute and, of course, marches by John Philip Sousa (Sabres and Spurs and Who's Who in Navy Blue). 5 The Rays are red hot

Can't get enough of our scrappy hometown heroes? Gather on the beach with other fans to watch the team on the big screen as it takes on the Angels of Los Angeles in Anaheim on July 29 at Tradewinds Island Grand Resort, 5500 Gulf Blvd., St. Pete Beach. The game starts at 3:35 p.m. but watch-party festivities start pregame. Cookout favorites and beverages, including bucket of beer specials, will be available for purchase.
