CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – When a sober living home opened in Crystal Lake last year, many residents living nearby were not thrilled. Prior to New Directions Addiction Recovery Service opening at 131 Ellsworth St., neighbors expressed their concern about the facility moving into their neighborhood. But a year later, Madyson Ostrowski, who lives across the street from New Directions, says the people coming in and out are among her best neighbors and mostly go unnoticed.

New Directions president Chris Reed said opening housing facilities for those with addictions issues are typically met with resistance, accordng to the Northwest Herald.

“The community has to be willing to help these people reintegrate socially, spiritually [and] through employment,” Reed said.
