CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A Jefferson County grand jury on Thursday indicted two people on charges of first-degree murder in separate incidents.

Brian O’Neil Gifft, no address available, was charged in connection with the May 19 shooting death of Demetrice Whitney in the Fox Glen subdivision, according to court records.

The slaying occurred after a physical altercation between the two men, court records said.

Gifft was apprehended after a two-day manhunt.

Also charged was Amanda Lynn Montgomery of Arbutus, Md., who is accused of supplying the heroin that caused the overdose death of Thomas Reninger, records said.

Montgomery was charged with one count of murder by delivery of a controlled substance (heroin) and one count of delivery of a schedule I controlled substance, records said.

Those charges follow first-degree murder indictments Wednesday against three Jefferson County men — Rakeem Deqwan Newman, Malakye Emerson Boyd and Tayjuhn Isaim Coble — in the July shooting death of Ryan Mumaw in Charles Town, court records said.
