FL Div 3: Late Mulhall points keeps Bective good run intact

May 21, 2018

Bective's Marty Mulhall

Bective 1-13, Longwood 0-15

Bective took home the two points to continue their good league form in this hard fought and entertaining game in windy and cool conditions in Longwood on Sunday May 20th.

This game had a keen competitive edge as both teams needed to continue their push for promotion from Div. 3.  Bective were missing a couple of players and Longwood were without their county men and opportunities were handed to other players eager to make their mark.

The exchanges were even early on and Longwood playing with the wind, had 2 points from play before Brian Cantwell scored a fine point for Bective after 6 minutes. Marty Mulhall added a long range pointed free kick, but Longwood responded with a point before Kevin Brennan kicked over on the 11th minute and quickly followed by a second point from Cantwell. Bective were winning some fine possession in the middle third which provided a launch pad for their attacks.

Longwood pointed again on the 20th minute followed by 2 pointed frees on the 21st and 26th minute from Mulhall.  Bective brought on Gary Brennan to replace the injured Mark Usher after a heavy challenge.  Longwood point on the 30th minute to close the scoring for the first half with Bective 0-7 to Longwood's 0-5.

Longwood started the livelier in the second half with 2 pointed frees to level the match.  Not to be out done Sean Keating use his strength to control a long delivery and buried the ball in the back of the Longwood net to put Bective 3 points up. Mulhall and Keating added to the winners tally but the home side levelled the match on the 21st minute.

Paul Mc Cabe kicked over a free after 26 minutes, followed by a fine point from Keating but again Longwood responded with a point from play to go one up.  Bective were not to be denied and Mulhall pointed two pressure free kicks in the final minutes to carry them over the line with a point to spare.
