A 2.3-mile extension of three light-rail lines into Lone Tree’s RidgeGate neighborhood is scheduled to open for passenger service May 19, bringing the Regional Transportation District’s rail system to its southernmost point in the metro area.

The Southeast Rail Extension will carry E, F and R light-rail service past Lincoln Station to RidgeGate Station, hitting two additional stations along the way. The three new stations will have 1,300 parking spaces, according to an RTD news release.

Lone Tree and other stakeholders contributed $25 million to support the new rail line, and an additional $3 million of in-kind contributions were thrown into the pot to pay for the $233 million project. RTD also received $92 million from a Federal Transit Administration program.

Construction on the extension began in 2016.

Passengers boarding at the end-of-line RidgeGate Station will be able to reach Union Station via the E-Line; 18th and California in downtown Denver via the F-Line; and Denver International Airport via the R-Line, with a transfer to the University of Colorado A-Line at the Peoria Station.
