Shea Patterson leads the way in PFF’s Offensive Team of the Week

The Michigan Wolverines took care of business yesterday, defeating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 42-7 in Piscataway.

Quarterback Shea Patterson threw for three touchdowns and 260 yards, while having yet another turnover-less outing. Because of his efficient afternoon, he is this week’s highest-graded offensive player, per Pro Football Focus.

Here is PFF’s explanation on Patterson’s grade:

“Now the 14th-highest graded quarterback in the country, Patterson put forth the highest-graded game of his career against Rutgers, in a proverbial ‘tune-up game’ before their much-anticipated matchup with Ohio State in two weeks. Michigan hosts Indiana next week before squaring off with OSU but if Patterson can find any sort of success like he did against Rutgers, the Wolverines will be sitting pretty at 10-1 heading into Columbus.”

A pretty self-explanatory statement. Patterson played against a weak Rutgers team and put up big numbers because of it. He had practically all day in the pocket, especially on his third-and-seven touchdown pass to Oliver Martin in the second half.

Patterson now has 1,927 passing yards (66.96 completion percentage) in 2018, to go along with 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions.

Other Big Ten players to make the offensive team are Penn State guard Connor McGovern and Illinois offensive tackle Alex Palczewski. Only one Big Ten defender made the defensive team — Minnesota linebacker Blake Cashman.
