UPDATE: Man Dies From Injuries Suffered in Mt. Sinai Crash

The 73-year-old man had been in critical condition after the Tuesday afternoon crash.

UPDATE 5 p.m. Wednesday: Campolo has died from his injuries, police say.

MOUNT SINAI, NY – A 73-year-old man was critically injured in a single-car crash in Suffolk County Tuesday morning.

According to Suffolk Police, Joseph Campolo was driving a 2010 Ford Edge east on Canal Road when the SUV left the roadway and struck a pole in front of 158 Canal Road at 8:55 a.m.

Campolo, of Port Jefferson Station, was transported by Port Jefferson EMS to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson where he was listed in critical condition.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
