Prince of Peace School to Host Second Annual Turkey Trot Event

Lake Villa, IL - October 2018 - Prince of Peace Catholic School, a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon school, announces that it will host its second annual Turkey Trot 5k and 1-mile fun run/walk race on Saturday, November 3.

With a scheduled start time of 9 a.m., the chip-timed 5K run or 1-mile fun run/walk will begin and end in Independence Grove Forest Preserve, located at 16400 Buckley Rd., Libertyville, IL 60048. The course features a flat, fast track ideal for novices as well as experienced runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Strollers are welcome, but pets cannot be accommodated.

Registration is open through October 31 for $35/person for the 5K and $20/person for the fun run/walk, with a $40 registration on the day of the race. A family/group of four may register for a reduced rate of $100. The registration fee includes a long-sleeved event t-shirt (for those registering before October 15), professional chip-timing, refreshments, prizes and entertainment. Winners of age group awards will be announced at 10:45 a.m.

"We are looking forward to another family-friendly event and to providing a morning of exercise and fun to runners of all calibers," said Susie Miller, Turkey Trot organizer. "Last year's inaugural event was a good time, despite the race day being cold and rainy. We know it is difficult to find races in our area at this time of year, so we are pleased to host the Turkey Trot again, and we look forward to an even larger turnout."

The event will take place in the rain, snow or shine, with lightning being the only reason for delay or cancelation.

Miller added that the POP Turkey Trot is meant to be fun for the entire family, not just seasoned athletes. She added, "This is the perfect race/fun run for anyone looking to kick off November with a little exercise and a lot of fun!"

Packets may be picked up at the Prince of Peace Parish Office from 12-5 p.m. on Friday, November 2 or before the start of the race on Saturday, November 3.
