Weymouth Worker Surprised By Kidney Donation

Dr. Jeanne Ficociello has been living with a genetic kidney disease since she was a freshman at Harvard in 1998.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A veterinarian at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital who was in need of a kidney transplant received quite a surprise last week.

Dr. Jeanne Ficociello has been living with a genetic kidney disease since she was a freshman at Harvard in 1998 and turned to social media in 2016 for a kidney donor. The search ended Valentine’s Day when her coworker Katlyne Velasquez told her through a card that she would be the donor.

Velasquez told WHDH that she's donating her kidney because doing nice things makes her happy.

Ficociello said no Valentine’s Day gift would ever top her most recent gift.
