BOSTON — The Marble Collection, the nonprofit publisher of the Massachusetts High School Magazine of the Arts, recently recognized two Massachusetts public high-school teachers, including one local educator, for their outstanding support of the arts at the fifth annual magazine release gala, Spring into Art, in UMass Boston’s Harbor Gallery.

UMass Boston sponsors the awards. The Marble Collection is based on UMass Boston’s Columbia Point campus.

The 2018 Outstanding Art Educator honoree in the English language-arts category, Mark Nevard, is a veteran English teacher at Oakmont Regional High School. Nevard kicked off his career as a freelance teacher of English to Italian professionals in Milan, Italy. He continued his appreciation for international education and worked four years at EF Education in Cambridge. In 1997, he brought his talents back to the United States, where he has been educating and inspiring Oakmont Regional High School student writers for the past 21 years. Six of Nevard’s students have been selected for publication in the Massachusetts High School Magazine of the Arts 2018.

The Marble Collection’s 2018 Outstanding Art Educator honoree in the visual-arts category is Faye O’Leary, a Graphic Design teacher at Lowell High School.
