People enjoy tacos at the Que Bueno Taco Fest in Corpus Christi on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018.

The seven-episode web series follows Rayo and Neece as they explore iconic tacos in cities throughout Texas. The show is also based on their book with the same name.

The two partnered with PBS Digital Studios to produce the series in September 2017.

According to a news release, the series highlights local issues such as taco gentrification and the importance of the tortilla, connecting audiences with the faces of immigrants who keep local traditions alive while pursuing the American Dream.

Some of the cities Rayo and Neece have visited in "The Tacos of Texas" web series were Houston for al pastor tacos; Austin for migas tacos; San Antonio for puffy tacos; and Brownsville for barbacoa tacos.

Rayo was in Corpus Christi and tried tacos from El Potro, Nano's Taco Run and Southside Barbacoa, among others, and featured them in "The Tacos of Texas" book.

Now the duo will show viewers how the tacos are made and share behind-the-scenes interviews from the taqueros and taqueras who make them.

" ...We feel like in Corpus Christi the breakfast taco is really big, and a big deal. And (the breakfast tacos) are even bigger than the ones in Austin," Rayo said.

Earlier this year, both Rayo and Neece were spotted in Corpus Christi at Chacho's Tacos and Hi Ho Restaurant during the filming of their Corpus Christi episode.

Rayo said the crew picked Chacho's for the tortillas, the beans, seeing the whole family work together at the restaurant and the atmosphere.

And what he loved about Hi Ho was a feeling of nostalgia he experienced the first time he visted the restaurant on the city's Westside.

Gerald Flores, owner of Taco Gear, was featured in the Corpus Christi episode along with several other local artists and entrepreneurs.

Flores said it was nice to show the two hosts how ingrained breakfast tacos are in the Corpus Christi culture.

"We have breakfast tacos on almost every corner," he said. "And it doesn't matter what color your skin is ... every person in Corpus Christi loves eating breakfast tacos with their friends and family."

Flores said the latest episode of "The Tacos of Texas" will dive into conversations about creative culture and cultural appropriation.

"I think people need to know that the people making this show are wanting to tell the story of the taco," he said. "It adds value to our city's culture and ... people should check it out."

Flores said the community is welcome to celebrate the latest episode at a launch/watch party at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Recess Bar & Grill.
