Tatyana Ali Opens Up About Her First Year Of Marriage And Being A Mom To Son Edward Aszard

Tatyana Ali dished with Entertainment Tonight’s Courtney Tezeno on plans she shares with her husband, Dr. Vaughn Rasberry, ahead of their one-year wedding anniversary. Tezeno caught up with the 38-year-old actress on Friday at the 14th Annual Step Up Inspiration Awards presented by Coach in Los Angeles where Ali shared all of her anniversary plans.

“Hopefully there will be some traveling, but I would love to have my post-baby body back… I just need to be on a beach, in a bathing suit somewhere, so I hit my [weight loss] target.”

The former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star hasn’t finalized their celebration just yet, however, Ali keeps busy by chasing after her nine-month-old son, Edward, “I play with my baby and I walk him all over the place. We’re always walking, that’s the biggest thing.”

Though juggling motherhood with her busy career is a lot, Tatyana confessed that she couldn’t be happier with the challenge. “It’s nuts and I’m tired, but I wouldn’t go back and have it any other way… It’s amazing. Everything feels full.”

Ali continued on with shared wisdom she learned from her grandmother, “[My grandmother] told me to ‘make my own Heaven,’ and no matter where you are in your life, no matter what’s going on, whether you’re up or down, or you’re rich or poor or whatever, you can make your own Heaven.”

As previously reported, the actress and her now-husband tied the knot in an intimate ceremony with close friends and family in Beverly Hills, California, on Sunday, July 17, 2016.

In September of 2016, the couple welcomed a son, Edward. “We’re completely swooning over this kid… When I kiss him in his sleep, soundly in REM, dreaming his baby dreams, he smiles and my heart explodes out of my body and into all of the space surrounding us.” The actress and singer gave birth to her first child, son Edward Aszard Rasberry, at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, her rep confirmed to People.

Edward is the first child for both Ali and her husband, Dr. Vaughn Rasberry.

“Becoming a mother has opened my heart to a bottomless depth of feeling… Through our son, I see the world with new eyes. We’ve completely fallen in love.”

Of her newborn’s chosen name, Ali explained, “Edward and Asgard are family names. He’s named after his grandfather and great-grandfather.”

“We’re reading the books, imagining, dreaming out loud… A lot of just wondering who this person is going to be, who this person is, and you don’t really know until they’re here. We’re ready for the adventure!”

Ali shared with People why she wanted to keep her first child’s sex a mystery until the baby’s delivery day, “Friends and family have so much to say about our choice, but we wouldn’t have it any other way… It is so much fun to have people guessing and betting when they are around us.”

Ali has also been generous about the details of the journey she and Rasberry have been on during her first pregnancy — including her newfound sense of superhero-mom intuition. “It’s so overwhelming, the responsibility, the transformation, preparing for childbirth… How would my life change?”

Ali blogged through the later stages of her pregnancy and revealed to People magazine the changes taking place, “I can actually feel my superhuman gene switching on… Senses heightened, split awareness, nesting in full effect, achieving bra sizes and levels of organization I have never reached before, a drive to put the needs of my child before myself??!! This is just the beginning!”

Back in February of 2017, a judge tossed out Tatyana Ali’s claims that Warner Bros and Telepictures stole her idea for the daytime talk show, The Real. In dismissing Ali’s lawsuit, the court ruled that the trade secret laws upon which the actress made part of her claim do not protect ideas.

Information that would be protected as trade secrets — formulas, methods, techniques, and such were not claimed by Ali, according to Deadline.

Ali filed her in July of 2016 claiming that she pitched a talk show to Warner Bros. and Telepictures back in 2012. Ali’s idea surrounded around a celebrity-hosted program aimed at viewers on “the younger side of the mid-life/mid-career female population.” The show would have “featured a variety of contemporary discussion topics in a relaxed and informal setting.”

The Real premiered in July 2013 on Fox-owned stations, featuring co-hosts Adrienne Bailon, Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai, and Tamara Mowry. “With a great deal of disappointment and complete disbelief,” Ali’s suit said, the actress “witnessed [her] concept come to life on major network television at the hands of the Defendant Corporations.”

Today’s ruling noted that not only did Ali “voluntarily” reveal her talk show idea, however, she failed to present in her suit “facts or concrete information protectable as a trade secret.”
