Featured obituary:

Peter H. Reinhard, age 89 of Lincolnwood, passed away on November 28, 2018. Beloved husband of Margrit nee Neuert; loving father of children Joanne (Brian) Cunningham, Jenny (Craig) Heckathorne, Kathy (Tom) Sobottke, David (Tricia nee Tobias) Reinhard, Lynn (Rich) Hawley, dear grandfather of Teresa (Nick) Welch, Megan, Lauren, Kira (Katie) Chalmers, Emily, Claire, Marika, Sam, Derek, and Niko, as well as greatgrandfather of Zara. Peter is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Claire Reinhard and his brother Frank G.

Peter was born in Germany where he lost a comfortable life when, as a child, he had to go into hiding from the Nazis during World War II. Peter came to a new country where Germans were not highly regarded at the time, gave up his dream of medicine and got down to work to support his family. He adapted and adjusted to many difficult situations with grace and a strong work ethic. Even after going through traumatic experiences, he focused on the positive, looking to the future, figuring out how to make things work, and loving to have fun.

Peter met Margrit Neuert in Chicago in 1950 and it was love at first sight! They married in August of 1952 and lived a full life full of travel, music, art and most importantly a large loving family.

Peter’s embracing of other cultures manifested itself in his career in international electronics and communication systems, his love of travel (having been to 6 continents and 75 countries), his friends from seemingly every country, and his wide-ranging tastes in music. Most importantly, he instilled in his children a respect for and interest in people from all parts of the world and all walks of life.

While his children were growing up his house was always open to anyone who needed a loving place to be. Peter and Margrit routinely invited students from other countries to come to their home for holidays so the students would not be alone. Many of his children’s friends considered Peter to be their extra dad.

Peter was the proud grandpa to ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He encouraged a love for the arts by taking his grandchildren to plays and concerts and, teaching them how to paint. He also enjoyed attending as many of their own concerts and plays as he could.

Peter may not have been one to say, “I love you” but he showed his love for the people in his life every day.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Peter’s memory to the Chicago radio station WFMT, his favorite station for beautiful music and thoughtful programs. Services were held.
