I-77 accident near White Oak kills two

WHITE OAK, SC (WIS) - A car accident on I-77 near White Oak has killed two people.

According to a spokesperson with Highway Patrol, the wreck happened at mile marker 45 in Fairfield County at about 3:55pm.

The pickup was traveling in the southbound lane when officials say it went into the median and overturned.

The driver, 66-year-old Charles Ryles of Sumter was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Another occupant who was riding in the front middle seat beside the driver - 32-year-old Leonel Garfia of Sumter - also died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was also ejected from the vehicle.

Three other passengers were transported to Richland Memorial Hospital. All of them were from Sumter. A sixth passenger was not injured and was released from the scene.
