Two fires in southern Utah grow together, burn over 1,800 acres

(KUTV) -- Two fires in southern Utah grew together over the weekend, according to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

The Riggs Fire has burned 1,077 acres and was started on Aug. 25.

The Lonely Fire has burned 788 acres and was started on Sept 6.

Both fires were caused by lightening.

The pair grew together on Saturday and are still being treated as two different fires, according to BLM.

The following trail and road closures are in effect:

• Dixie National Forest: Grandview Trail from the Willis Creek junction to Lower Podunk
• Bryce Canyon National Park: Riggs Spring Loop Trail and Upper Rim Trial.
• Bryce Canyon National Park: Main park road is closed at Natural Bridge south to Rainbow Point.

Despite these closures, Bryce Canyon National Park remains open to visitors.

The Dixie National Forest, Bryce Canyon National Park and Kanab Field Office of Bureau Land Management are working to contain the flames.
