Orioles minors recap 6/20: Aberdeen and Bowie grab wins, while Norfolk takes a loss

Indianapolis Indians 4, Norfolk Tides 2

The Tides offense was relatively quiet in this game, managing lone runs in the fifth and ninth innings. The team was 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position on the night, and Indianapolis was able to win a close one.

Cedric Mullins and Tim Beckham both went hitless for the Tides, in the number one and two spots in the order, respectively. D.J. Stewart, batting third, went 1-for-4, leaving his batting average at .276. Shortstop Adrian Marin was 2-for-3 with an RBI from the ninth spot in the order. He is hitting .254 on the year.

This was the first start at Norfolk for right-hander Yefry Ramirez since his abbreviated call-up to Baltimore. He had a good showing, pitching 5.1 innings with two hits, no runs allowed, one walk, five strikeouts and a no-decision. His Norfolk ERA now stands at 3.97.

Bowie Baysox 5, Harrisburg Senators 4

Bowie outlasted the Senators in 10 innings last night. The game was tied at three going into extras and Bowie was able to get two runs in the top half of the 10th, then held on after the Senators got one run back in the bottom of the 10th.

Colby Rasmus was 1-for-4 with two walks, two strikeouts and one run scored. He is now hitting .100 for the Baysox. Ryan Mountcastle went 1-for-5 with a walk and two strikeouts, while designated hitter Ademar Rifaela went 2-for-4 with one run, one walk and one strikeout. There were also RBI registered by D’Arby Myers, Anthony Santander, Aderlin Rodriguez and Martin Cervenka.

Gabriel Ynoa had a decent, albeit abbreviated outing. He went four innings, throwing 54 pitches, including 33 strikes. He allowed three hits, one earned run, zero walks and three strikeouts to leave his ERA at 2.57. Reliever Brandon Kline had yet another strong appearance. On the year, he is working with a 1.89 ERA. In this game, he got his third save, pitching one inning while allowing one hit, one unearned run and two strikeouts.

Aberdeen Ironbirds 7, Tri-City ValleyCats 1

Aberdeen dominated throughout in this one, scoring their runs in bunches. They got two in the second, two in the third and three in the sixth, totaling seven runs on 12 hits. And the pitching held up their end too, allowing only one run to the ValleyCats.

Willie Rios made his season debut for Aberdeen, allowing zero runs in four innings with two hits, zero walks and two strikeouts. His ERA remains at a perfect 0.00. Three relievers combined to allow just one run in the final five frames.

On the offensive side, designated hitter Randolph Gassaway went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Third Baseman Willy Yahn and catcher Alfredo Gonzalez had three hits apiece. Yahn also had two RBI and first baseman J.C. Escarra added three RBI. Shortstop Adam Hall went 0-for-4 with one walk and three strikeouts.
