Purim, a celebration of the salvation of the Jewish people from Haman’s plot to destroy them more than 2,000 years ago, begins the night of Feb. 28 and ends March 1. Celebrate the festival at the following events.

Feb. 28

Greenburgh: The Whole Megillah: Don a costume and bring the family to Greenburgh Hebrew Center to celebrate Purim. Events are as follows: 5:15-6 p.m.: songs, short megillah reading Hebrew and English with interspersed Purim trivia; 6-6:15 p.m.: religious school band and costume parade; 6:15-6:45 p.m.: dinner; 7- 9 p.m.: community megillah reading. Pearl River: A Purim service at 7 p.m. featuring singing, dancing and megillah reading. Seventh-grade religious school students will perform in the Purim Shpiel, "The Little Mermaidele" the child-friendly service will be followed by Purim-themed Kiddush. 60 East Madison Ave., Pearl River, bethamtemple.org.         

Peekskill: Purim Shpiel. Tell the story of Purim through a fun-filled show with a Dr. Seuss theme. Experience is not necessary. Celebration starts at 7 p.m. and features costume parade, prizes and food. First Hebrew Congregation, 1821 East Main St., Peekskill, firsthebrew.org.

Scarsdale: Purim dinner, megillah chanting, chat and more. 6:30 p.m.: Pizza and salad dinner. Free.; 7 p.m.: Megillah reading, purimshpiel and purim songs; 8 p.m.: Join Rabbi Brown at Chat in Scarsdale village. Reservations required. Feb. 28, March 4

New City: Purim celebration featuring food and star wars themed cooking making. On Feb. 28, events include: 5:30 p.m.: Mincha; 6 p.m.: food and Star Wars themed cookie making; 6:30 p.m.: Maariv; 6:45 p.m.: Megillah. A carnival will also be held from 10:30 a.m.– 1:30 p.m. March 4. New City Jewish Center, 47 Old Schoolhouse Road, New City, newcityjc.org.

March 1

Dobbs Ferry: Chabad of The Rivertowns hold an extreme Purim celebration with a pogo stunt show by Pogo Fred. Fred holds the Guinness World Record for multiple pogo stunts and has been featured on America’s Got Talent and Jay Leno. Featuring Graggers, hamantashen, costumes, interactive megillah reading and a variety of concession stands. 5 p.m. Suggested donation: $25 family; $10 single; $54 sponsor. Ossining: Chabad of Briarcliff-Ossining will hold a Purim banquet and celebration. Featuring food, music, dancing, L'chaim for adults, masquerade, mentalist and magician, David Levitan and a special slide show during the Megillah reading. 5 p.m.: megillah reading; 5:30 p.m.: Purim feast and entertainer. For reservations, call 914-236-3200. Chabad of Briarcliff-Ossining, 15 Campwoods Road, Ossining.

Suffern: Purim party featuring Megillah reading, costume contest, traditional holiday treats, music and holiday treats. 12:30-1:30 p.m. Rockland Community College, 145 College Road.      

March 2

Putnam Valley: Shabbat service followed by “A Liverpool Purim Schpiel” starring Hebrew school students and congregation. The Purim Fest will feature with games, hamantashen baking contest, costume contest and more. 6:30 p.m. 362 Church Road, rtpv.org.

March 4

Greenburgh: Greenburgh Hebrew Center holds a carnival and a variety family activities in celebration of Purim. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with activities for families with young children – Purim songs, a megillah story and costume parade. At 10:30 a.m. the Purim Carnival kicks off. Magician “Joshy K” peforms at noon. The carnival features game booths and events for all ages such as shushan shuffle, basketball/football toss and sponge throw, preschool games, super slide, sports bounce house, crafts, food court, costume contest, prizes and more. Everybody is encouraged to dress up in costume. Only cash and checks accepted for ticket and food purchases. Mount Kisco: Temple Shaaray Tefila hosts a Purim Luau featuring a DJ dance party, food trucks, kahuna games, crafts, face painting, balloon art, inflatables, photo fun, tie dye station, photo fun and more. Services: 9:30 a.m.-10 a.m. for families with children under 5; 10-11 a.m. for families with children 5 and older; carnival at 11 a.m. Admission: $20 per wristband in advance; $25 at the door. Rye: Purim Carnival at Emanu-El. Enjoy games, prizes, food and more. The annual Purim Carnival sponsored and run by the youth group will be held after the schpiel. At The Susan Schweitzer Family Learning Center visitors will find popcorn, bake sale items, face painting and prizes. West Nyack: Annual Character Palooza. JCC Rockland presents its annual Purim Character Palooza with characters including Pooh, Tigger, Donald and Daisy as well as snacks, bounce house, face painting, games, crafts and live music. 10-11:30 a.m. March 11. Tickets: members $8; public $12.
