Windsor Locks Receives State Grant For Bicycle Transit

The grant money is being distributed to 40 towns and cities across the state.

WINDSOR LOCKS, CT - Forty towns and cities across Connecticut will receive $12.4 million in funding under a competitive state grant program that seeks to support pedestrian and bicycle safety and improve accessibility, according to a statement from Gov. Dannel Malloy. The grant is being administered by the state Department of Transportation and is intended to make sustainable transport safer and easier.

“Modernizing and updating our transportation infrastructure – including making accessible neighborhoods for pedestrians and bicyclists – is critical if we want to have thriving towns where families want to live, businesses can flourish, and communities succeed,” Malloy said in the statement. “These grants are targeted toward strengthening our towns and cities and fostering growth in our local economies.”

The grants distributed were between $75,000 and $400,000. The decision of how to allocate the money was based on each municipality's application to the DOT.
