Norwich Native Daughter named

Former Norwich resident Maureen Sullivan has been named the Native Daughter for 2011 by the Norwich Rotary Club and the Woman’s City Club of Norwich.

Sullivan, a Norwich Free Academy graduate who works as an organization development consultant in Maryland, will be honored at a luncheon and presented with the award June 22 at the Holiday Inn.

A resident of Annapolis, Md., Sullivan lives with her husband, Jack Siggins. She recently was elected president of the American Library Association for 2012-13. In that post, Sullivan will be the chief elected officer for the oldest and largest library organization in the world. The American Library Association has a membership of more than 62,000 librarians, library trustees and library supporters.

She is an adjunct professor at Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science in Boston and has taught at Harvard.

Sullivan was chosen as the 2010 Academic/Research Librarian of the Year by the Association of College and Research Libraries. Her other honors include the American Library Association’s Elizabeth Futas Catalyst for Change Award in 1999.

The Native Son/Daughter award, established in 1968, recognizes outstanding achievements by Norwich natives. Past recipients have been recognized for endeavors in the arts, science, education, sports, religion, entertainment and philanthropy.
