Naga, 47, posted a series of sweet snaps alongside Missy as she updated fans on the devastating news.

"Said goodbye to our darling, sweet girl Missy yesterday," Naga tweeted.

"She may have been small, but she was immense in stature.

"The sweetest cat I've ever loved. She's left a massive hole in our hearts and home."

Naga's fans were heartbroken for the star and quickly flooded the comment section with messages of support.

One wrote: "So sorry to hear that Naga. What a beauty she was. Much love."

Another added: "So sorry to hear this. It is the saddest time."

The BBC anchor regularly shared photos of her beloved cat on social media.

Earlier this year, she posted a picture of the feline enjoying a snooze on her lap.

The sad annoucement comes after Naga revealed she has "suffered a huge loss" as she paid tribute to a co-star.

She joined the BBC in 2008 and has made a lot of friends there during that time.

But Naga was left sad to see colleague Secunder Kermani go, after he revealed he was leaving his role as Pakistan & Afghanistan correspondent for a new job at Channel 4.

He tweeted: "Pleased to say I’ll be joining @Channel4News as a foreign affairs correspondent later this year based out of London… Am looking forward to working with a great team on stories right across the world."
