Patch Q&A: Connie Carter

Connie Carter, who has lived in Bowie most of her life, is president of Citizens for Local Animal Welfare (CLAW), which has lobbied the city for several years to build a short-term animal shelter. Patch caught up with her and asked her five questions.

Bowie Patch: How long have you lived in Bowie?
Connie Carter: Forty five years.

Bowie Patch: Why does Bowie need an animal shelter?
Carter: Bowie needs an animal shelter because pets are a very integral part of the family. They are so important to many aspects of life—caregiving, helping people and assisting with the elderly. Now more than ever, residents need to be able to reclaim their pets as quickly as possible to make sure they are as safe as possible. A short-term animal shelter in Bowie would allow that to happen.

Bowie Patch: What is the most important issue facing Bowie?
Carter: The most important issues facing Bowie City are to keep crime under control, and to establish a short-term animal shelter to help the forgotten demographics of the city.

Bowie Patch: What do you like about Bowie the most?
Carter: I like the fact that as large as the city is, it still feels like a small town. The city tries to give all the residents amenities to make it a wonderful place to live for everybody.

Bowie Patch: What do you dislike?
Carter: The traffic gets very intense at times. In the past, there was a lot of residential building going on. More attention should have been paid to the roads to accommodate all these extra people.
