quick bio

Chuck Woolery was born in Ashland, Kentucky, on March 16, 1941. He was an accomplished guitarist and singer, and had his sights set on a career in music. He instead joined the Navy and when his service was up, went to Morehead State University to study economics and sociology. Realizing that this wasn't for him, Woolery moved to Nashville to launch his music career.

While in Nashville, Woolery formed a music duo called Avant Garde, who had a Billboard Top 40 song in 1968. Woolery was offered a part in a film, which led him to Los Angeles, where he landed a guest appearance on The Merv Griffin Show.

Merv liked what he saw and persuaded Woolery to audition for an NBC show. It turned out that NBC didn't pick up the show, but a year later, called Woolery to offer him a job hosting the brand new Wheel of Fortune.

In 1975, Woolery inaugurated Wheel of Fortune, a show that has been on the air for close to 30 years. After seven years on the show, Woolery went on to host various game shows like Love Connection, Scrabble, The Dating Game, Greed, and Lingo.

Woolery has also had quite a busy personal life, considering he's been married three times and has eight children.

Chuck, a devout Christian, took some time away from the pool to talk to us about the Bible, reality TV and Love Tactics.

Interview

Q: Where are you right now?

I am sitting by the pool reading the Bible. I was just reading the book of proverbs before we spoke.

Q: Any particular reason as to why you are reading the Bible at 9 a.m.?

It's what I do every day.

¿ Quick fact ?
Chuck Woolery starred in two movies: Sonic Boom in 1974, and The Treasure of Jamaica Reef (a.k.a. Evil in the Deep) in 1976.

Q: Have you had a chance to see The Passion of the Christ and what are your thoughts on it?

Yes, twice. The first time I saw it, I saw it with a friend and I thought it was the most accurate depiction that I had ever seen before. I was very moved by it, moved to tears several times as a matter of fact. Then I took my 14-year-old son, because I thought he needed to see it.

Q: Do you think the media has blown everything out of proportion?

I don't care what the media does. It has no impact on what God does.
