A 49-year-old man riding a high performance motorcycle was killed when his bike hit the side of a sedan hauling a small trailer on the Ortega Highway Sunday, closing Route 74 between San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore.

The motorcyclist was a resident of the city of Orange, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz.

Kurtz described the bike as a “high performance motorcycle” and a “crotch rocket like a Ducati.”

The crash was just east of the western fire station, and it was at about 8:44 a.m., according to the CHP.

The vehicle involved in the crash was described as a light blue Chevrolet Cruze with a small trailer attached to it, according to the CHP. The driver of that vehicle was not injured, although its airbags deployed.
