Michael Caine and Kate Beckinsale are patients with a lot of secrets in the first trailer for thriller Stonehearst Asylum.
The film, with shades of fellow period piece Shutter Island, stars Jim Sturgess (21) as a young doctor who takes a job at a mysterious mental institution. He quickly falls for one of the patients (Beckinsale) but realizes that the medical chief (Ben Kingsley) is not exactly following the Hippocratic Oath.

The trailer features plenty of jolts, including patients dying left and right, along with Caine’s character getting locked up in a prison cell for some reason.
Brad Anderson (The Call) directed from a script by Joe Gangemi, based on a short story by Edgar Allen Poe. Millennium Films releases Stonehearst Asylum in theaters and on-demand on Oct. 24.
