The Defense Department‘s plan to roll out an agency-wide information technology platform could face delays as officials consider first some cybersecurity factors, FCW reported Tuesday.

Adm. Michael Rogers, director of National Security Agency, told a an AFCEA cybersecurity conference that the Joint Information Environment is intended for the DoD to gain full view of its network in order to counter cyber threats, Sean Lyngaas reports.

“Where I believe we ultimately need to go is a network structure that has a joint global backbone, and that the service has become responsible for how you plug in to the last tactical mile,” Rogers told the conference.

Rogers, who also leads the U.S. Cyber Command, said he is pushing to combine the shared offerings of the Defense Information Systems Agency and the Cybercom, according to the report.

He intends for the move to provide DISA an end-to-end view of the network to address cyber attacks, FCW reports.

Lyngaas writes that Rogers confirmed the DoD’s plan to launch a command and control infrastructure in the fall for DISA to perform those operations.
