Marilyn J. Skarda, 86, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father John Spiegel
officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Church or Iowa City Hospice.

Marilyn Jean was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Iowa City, the daughter of William and Emma Kasper Holub. She was a graduate of University High School and Iowa City Commercial College. She attended the University of Iowa. Before her marriage Marilyn was employed at the Iowa City Adjustment Co. On Feb. 18, 1954, Marilyn married Vladimir "Val" Skarda at St. Mary's Church in Iowa City.
Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Altar and Rosary Society, enjoyed bowling with the Iowa City Bowling League, playing cards and socializing with friends and family.
Marilyn was the matriarch of the Holub Apartments, an Iowa City landmark.
She will be greatly missed.
The family extends their appreciation to the staff of Iowa City Hospice and Lantern Park Care Center for the wonderful care and support.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Vladimir Skarda; their son, Gary Skarda, and granddaughter, Victoria Skarda, both of Iowa City; cousins, extended family and many friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents.
