Iowa woman killed in I-80 crash

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A Des Moines woman died in a car crash on Interstate 80 in Poweshiek County.

The Iowa State Patrol says 59-year-old Charlene Lynn Gibbens died on Wednesday while traveling westbound near the town of Brooklyn. According to authorities, Gibbens lost control around 12:30 p.m. and the car rolled. Gibbens, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Authorities say a passenger, 33-year-old Christy Melissa Thomas of Des Moines, was taken to Grinnell Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol is still investigating.
