MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  A pack of wild dogs is causing havoc in the Sherwood Forest area near the University of Memphis campus.

Memphis Animal Services set traps and even asked police for help, but the dogs are still running around.

Neighbors told WREG they’re afraid to go in their backyards.

“I don’t even want to let my dogs out in my own backyard. I really don’t,” Patricia Thames said. “I don’t want [my dogs] hurt, bitten, or children hurt, or me hurt.”

Thames is on edge, because wild dogs have been on the prowl in her neighborhood for the past several weeks.

“They are causing havoc on the neighborhood,” Travon McCoy, the president of the neighborhood association, said.

She said she receives complaints daily.

McCoy said the dogs run around in a pack.

One is a blonde Shepard mix with a black muzzle, and another a black lab. Both are vicious.

“They are attacking cats for their food supply,” McCoy said. “Last count 25 to 30 (cats).”

The dogs are known to stay underneath abandoned homes on Willshire.

Animal services were close to catching them earlier this week, but the dogs got away.

Animal services said it is working with the community and “have made several valiant but unsuccessful efforts” like patrolling the area and setting traps.

“We have seen them every day. They do have traps set, but they are feral dogs, and they are extremely smart,” McCoy said.

The dogs have been spotted within a two-mile radius.
