The Giants and Jets will play each other in the regular season this year, perhaps taking some of the juice out of their annual preseason matchup. But any game between the two teams can create divides among families. That’s what Giants corner Prince Amukamara understands from his four-plus years in the NFL.

“For our fans it’s a huge game,” Amukamara said Thursday. “A Jets-Giants game can split families, so I’ve heard. I’ve never played against a rivalry being at Nebraska. We were the only team there. I’m excited about this game.”

Amukamara says he’s “completely over” the groin injury that he sustained earlier in training camp and he will play against the Jets on Saturday.

For running back Andre Williams, the excitement about Saturday is more about the fact that it’s their third preseason game, when starters and key role players typically receive a heftier workload.

“I think it’s more that it’s the third preseason game that we get to play them because we’ll be playing significantly longer than we have the past couple of games,” Williams said. “So that’s what makes it exciting for me. Other than that, it’s still a preseason game.

“But we play them this year in the regular season, so that will be a whole ‘nother story.”

CRUZ OUT AGAIN

Tom Coughlin said Victor Cruz (left calf) will not play on Saturday. Cruz, who is working his way back from a torn patellar tendon suffered last season, injured his calf during practice last week and hasn’t practiced since.

Center Weston Richburg (left knee tendinitis) said he’s unsure if he’ll play Saturday night. “We haven’t talked about that yet,” he said. “I want to be out here with (my teammates.) But also understand that I want to be out there the entire regular season. We’ll continue to talk about it and figure out what we want to do.”

Right tackle Marshall Newhouse, who had his left ankle stepped on Wednesday, said “all is well” and he should play Saturday. … Rookie S Landon Collins (sprained MCL) will play Saturday. … Coughlin said LB Mark Herzlich (concussion) was progressing but “just didn’t feel real good (Wednesday).” He hasn’t been cleared to return.
