More rain is possible on Friday

A warm day with highs in the 80s and a chance for afternoon thunderstorms are in store for Topeka-area residents on Thursday, said 580 WIBW Radio meteorologist Dave Relihan.

“Today will be partly cloudy, warm and a little breezier with highs headed back into the upper 80s,” Relihan said. “By mid- to late afternoon, there will be a slight chance for a few pop-up thunderstorms.

“The severe weather threat will be very low so the greatest concern with any storm will be heavy rain. Any chance for rain will end early tonight followed by mostly cloudy skies with lows around 70.”

More early-summer warmth with a chance for additional rain is in the forecast for Friday, Relihan said.

“Tomorrow will be partly sunny, breezy, warm and humid with a slight chance for scattered thunderstorms mainly northwest of Topeka, closer to north-central Kansas,” he said. “Highs tomorrow will again reach the upper 80s.

“Chances for occasional showers and thunderstorms should be highest Friday night through Saturday night with locally heavy rain very possible. Highs Saturday will be in the mid- to upper 80s.

“Most of Sunday will be dry, very warm and humid. Highs will top out in the lower 90s. There will be a chance for more storms Sunday night and Monday with highs Monday in the lower 90s.”
