Ground was broken Wednesday on the second phase of CitySet, the cornerstone of the proposed multimillion-dollar Glendale Riverwalk development project.

Stonebridge Cos., the Denver-based hospitality development and management company, is building a mixed-use development with a 135-suite Residence Inn by Marriott, restaurants, shopping and entertainment venues south of East Virginia Avenue from Colorado Boulevard to South Cherry Street.

The Residence Inn will be built next to the existing Hilton Garden Inn Denver, a 210- room hotel that was rebranded in 2009 as the first phase of the CitySet development.

Stonebridge is a privately owned hotel-management company that has developed more than 65 hotels and operated more than 75 lodging properties.

The city of Glendale submitted a proposal to the Colorado Economic Development Commission in June to build a San Antonio-type canal with river taxis, video screens that advertise upcoming events and display news feeds, an outdoor amphitheater and a Rugby Hall of Fame linked to the existing Infinity Park on 22 acres in a creekside setting.

Chef shift.

Former Barolo Grill and Russo’s chef Brian Laird has landed at Rockbar to open a burger concept in the DJ-driven dance club at 3015 E. Colfax.

Owner Jesse Morreale assures Rockbar fans that the stuck-in-the-’70s decor and dance floor are not changing. Laird will bring his culinary talent to the new menu, which will include fried chicken and football on Sundays.

More shop talk.

Kiehl’s, the skin- and hair-care company, is opening its first free-standing store in Colorado on Sept. 30 in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center.

The New York-based retailer offers products for women, men, children and pets.

Sink not sunk.

The Sink restaurant in Boulder is finally getting its 15 minutes of Food Network fame on an episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives airing at 7 p.m. Sept. 26.

Co-owner Mark Heinritz cooks up the restaurant’s signature Buddah basil pizza, a cowboy Reuben and a Texas straw burger for Triple D host Guy Fieri.

The episode was originally scheduled to air June 13, but lawsuits between the production company and Food Network sank the Sink’s television debut.

The restaurant will host a viewing party on the episode date.

Eavesdropping

on a child and her mom: “You take care of everything for me, Mommy. You take care of Daddy too.

“Who takes care of me?”

“You do that also.”
