Adam Driver is 2015 MFF Shining Star Award Recipient

Maui Film Festival Founder and Director Barry Rivers has announced that Adam Driver has been chosen as the 2015 Maui Film Festival Shining Star Award recipient.

The 16th annual event will be held from June 3 to 7, 2015, at the Wailea Resort in Maui.

The Maui Film Festival Shining Star Award honors a film artist who “dares to dream big dreams and delivers brilliantly charismatic and revelatory performances every time that opportunity knocks.”

The award will be presented at the Celestial Cinema on the Wailea Gold & Emerald Golf Course on Friday June 5, 2015.

“Adam Driver is a brilliantly talented actor’s actor and chameleon,” said Rivers. “We couldn’t be more honored to present him with this year’s Maui Film Festival Shining Star Award.”

Driver was most recently seen starring in Noah Baumbach’s While We’re Young with Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts and Amanda Seyfried.

Driver will next star in Saverio Costanzo’s Hungry Hearts with Alba Rohrwacher.

The film premiered at the 2014 Venice International Film Festival, where Driver won the Volpi Cup Award for Best Actor for his performance.

Driver will also star opposite Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton and Kirsten Dunst in Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Special and in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII.

Driver also recently wrapped production on Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Silence, which also stars Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson.

Last year, Driver starred in Shawn Levy’s dramatic comedy This is Where I Leave You with Jason Bateman, Connie Britton, Tina Fey and Jane Fonda.

Driver will star opposite Mia Wasikowska in John Curran’s critically acclaimed Tracks.

Driver appeared in the Coen brothers’ 2013 Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated film Inside Llewyn Davis, Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award-nominated Lincoln, Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha and Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar.

Driver is now in production on the fifth season of HBO’s Girls. Driver’s performance in the hit series earned him 2014 and 2013 Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Driver is a 2009 graduate of Juilliard and  the co-founder of the nonprofit AITAF (Arts in the Armed Forces) organization.
