Your local library has the ticket for summer adventure.

Library cardholders statewide can get a free one-day pass to Michigan's state parks, historic sites, cultural attractions, campgrounds and recreation areas through the third annual Michigan Activity Pass program, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Michigan Recreation and Park Association and the Library Network. The pass offers cardholders at more than 400 participating Michigan libraries a one-day pass to explore — at no cost — hundreds of destinations simply by visiting their local library or the Michigan Activity Pass website.

The Howell Carnegie District Library, Brighton District Library, Pinckney Community Public Library, Fowlerville District Library, Hamburg Township Library and Cromaine District Library in Hartland Township are among those participating in the program.

The Michigan Activity Pass program is a new component for the third year of MI Big Green Gym, which encourages Michigan residents to use the state's parks and recreation facilities to increase physical activity.

"Partnerships make creative programs like the Michigan Activity Pass possible. By working together, we are able to provide even broader opportunities for people to try a new outdoor skills, explore different areas of the state and experience all our award-winning state parks have to offer," DNR Director Keith Creagh said in a news release.

Beginning Sunday, the Michigan Activity Pass will enable library cardholders to print a pass, either from home or their local library, that is valid for one-time entry into any Michigan state park or recreation area and more than 100 participating cultural institutions, including many museums, for up to one week.
