Pomona-Pitzer 29, Caltech 4 >> Jake Bruml, Sam Fox and Kevin Brice each finished with five RBIs each for the Sagehens in their SCIAC rout to begin a three-game series. Pomona-Pitzer (23-10, 5-7) scored eight runs in the second inning, and Caltech used eight pitchers in the game. Both teams will compete in a double-header at 11 a.m. today hosted by Pomona-Pitzer.

WHITTIER 7, CLAREMONT MUDD SCRIPPS 3 >> John Rizzo hit two home runs to left field while freshman Trey Smith homered over the left-center field fence for the CMS.

Rizzo, Christian Hoxsie and Michael Gose were honored as the Stags’ three seniors.

Clayton Brock earned his first start at shortstop while Alex Clemens shifted over to second base. Brock had his first hit of the season and second in his career. MacKenzie Menthen and Hoxsie each added two hits.

For Whittier, Graham Pimm had three hits while Cody Martinez had two RBIs.

CMS plays the final two games of the season at Whittier at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today.

College softball

CHAFFEY 11, BARSTOW 4 >> Dominique Acosta pitched seven innings for the Panthers (9-27, 6-9) in the Foothill Conference victory over the Vikings. Acosta had eight strikeouts while allowing six hits in the victory while Victoria Serrato went 4 for 5 with a double. SBVC finishes the season in fourth place in conference.

SBVC 12, 1 VICTOR VALLEY 1 >> Alese Graham went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Serena Oballes had three hits with an RBI for SBVC. Tina Ascosta had two hits and two RBIs in the win, as SBVC (26-13,112-3) clinched a share of the Foothill Conference title for the first time since 1997.

POMONA-PITZER 1-4, CHAPMAN 0-5 >> The Sagehens (14-20, 9-13) split a SCIAC doubleheader. In Game 1, Leah Bleichner scored the lone run for the Sagehens while Bianca Cockrell pitched seven shutout innings. Cockrell allowed three hits and had five strikeouts. In Game 2, Natalie Ireland went 2 for 3 with two runs batted in for the Sagehens. Sam Carlson had a home run against the Panthers while Ashley Morello went 3 for 4 with a run scored. Pomona-Pitzer will play at noon today against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first game of a doubleheader.
